Israel and Azerbaijan discussed strengthening diplomatic and strategic relations between the two countries during the official visit of Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen to Baku, where he met with the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. The visit comes in the wake of the opening of the Azerbaijani embassy in Israel in more than 30 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations and amid the heightened tensions between Azerbaijan and Iran.
